The ultimate island sanctuary - Martineau Bay Resort & Spa is situated eight miles off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico on the north shore of the island of Vieques.
Martineau Bay Resort & Spa offers unmatched elegance and service, pristinely set overlooking two secluded, picturesque beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. Our goal is to create an indelible impression with luxurious rooms, sumptuous dining, and the unique landscape of the island, so that you will return to our tropical paradise, time and again.
Recently declared by Forbes.com "among the Caribbean's best-kept vacation secrets", Vieques is a virtually undiscovered island. World-class service and elegance are the hallmarks of this resort. On the north shore of the island of Vieques, this plantation-style resort sits above two intimate beaches and has a large bi-level pool. A pale coral-stone sundeck surrounding the pool is furnished with lounge chairs and umbrellas.
World famous Mosquito Bay, with its magical, bioluminescent waters, is just six miles away. The two beaches at the resort offer views of neighboring islands, the upper pool level has two infinity edges and a swim-up bar, and the spa includes an outdoor shower and a sea-view fitness center. Spanish-style guestrooms measure at least 600 square feet and include patios or balconies with teak furniture and ocean views. Bathrooms have large stall showers and oval soaking tubs.
Rest and relaxation is the theme, symbolized by classical background music playing in a two-story lobby offering a tropical Spanish decor of coral-stone floor and wood accents. Wood stairways lead down a 10-foot bluff to two beaches, one 100 yards long and the other 70 yards, providing swimming and sunbathing opportunities as well as views of Culebra island and mainland Puerto Rico to the north.
Comprising three air-conditioned buildings grouped around a central fountain, the resort's 5,000 square-foot health-and-beauty spa consists of a complimentary sea-view fitness center equipped with cardio and weight machines as well as free weights; a beauty salon with complimentary men's and women's four-person spa tubs, steam rooms and saunas; and a series of treatment rooms (some with sea views), including a wet-treatment room with private outdoor shower.
The resort offers 138 extra-large guestrooms including 20 villa suites, in 17 sand-colored buildings of two and three stories without elevators. Each room includes a patio or balcony.
Other recreational activities are available at or near the resort; fees may apply. When you're ready to explore the island, the island boasts 40 pristine beaches, two of which are on the property. Or enjoy other outdoor activities, such as horseback riding, jeep rentals, cycling, snorkeling, sail boating and kayaking, art and ceramic gallery shopping.
About the Island
The island of Vieques is what the Caribbean used to be, should be, and what most people want the Caribbean to be. No traffic lights, no golden arches, no factory outlet stores, no beachfront condos, just a pristine, natural setting which allows you to relax, walk the white sand beaches, snorkel off the beach at the hotel, enjoy beautiful sunsets, marvel at every star in the sky, and spend quality time with friends, family or coworkers.
The incredible destination of Vieques is approximately 21 miles long and 5 miles at its widest point (55 square miles total area), has less than 10,000 inhabitants, over 40 beaches, and 2 towns. All development is in a narrow strip of land covering one-third of the island; the other two-thirds is a tranquil nature preserve.
